Self-Belief – Have faith in yourself

There are some people in life who don’t even bother to start anything such is the complete lack of belief they hold. Do you know anyone who might say that they want to do something, but that they won’t because they don’t really believe it will be a success? What do you immediately think when you hear someone say this, perhaps you yourself have been guilty of saying something similar?

They make no attempt at making it happen, and instead they give up on themselves and what they want. They make no plans, they take no action and they suffer the consequences as a result. Why do they give up? Simply because they harbor a belief (limiting) that they won’t be able to achieve success at whatever activity they want to start. They lack self-belief in themselves.

Don’t adopt a burnt out defeatist attitude before the race has even started, instead choose to think positively and believe that you will be successful in the things that you set out to do.

It takes guts, courage, determination and self belief to make a go of something, age is no barrier to this, and you don’t need a great education to have these qualities, they are available to anyone. The person who takes action in life to make something happen will first believe in themselves.

Self Belief - Believing in yourself and your abilities

Have you ever heard an athlete talk about how they will win the gold medal before the race has started? Then when the talking stops they take their place on the starting line, they do indeed go and win the gold medal. Are they surprised when they win? They are elated, pleased and very happy with themselves, but not necessarily surprised. After all why would they be surprised, they would have always known deep down they could do it? People who achieve great success in life know they will be successful before the time comes to step up and collect their prize (whatever that may be), this ‘knowing’ comes as a result of the self-belief they hold.

Will you get what you want?

Will you get what you want in life? When you start something in life how confident are you before you start that it will turn out well, because a lot of success and failure comes down to the self-belief held by the person as they start and continue to work on any new challenge.

Creating change or getting what you want from life is about first believing that it is possible and that you can achieve it. And while self-belief in itself will not automatically guarantee you success, it will certainly be one of the reasons you do or do not start and certainly continue to take action in your life until your ideal life situation manifests itself in front you.

Do you know whether or not you will succeed or fail in life? Because to have self belief is to already know you will get what you want, and that you will succeed.

The biggest roadblock

The biggest roadblock to achieving something in your life, making the change, getting what you want, living the life you most want will not be a lack of ideas because we all have them, it won’t be a lack of money, although some will disagree, (I urge you instead to work extra hours, get another job, save, make sacrifices, get a loan or whatever), it will not be for lack of intelligence, or a lack of knowledge, it will also not be a lack of potential, while they might all appear legitimate reasons, or excuses they will not stop you and nor should they ever stop you from having what you want in your life.

I am here to tell you that the biggest roadblock will always be you. You will be the one who stops taking action, not because you physically can’t but because you lose faith in yourself, or your idea, or whatever it is that you are currently working on. And once you do, your mind will open the doors to all manner of excuses, while you might have once before seen yourself living a better life, if you stop believing it to be possible and that you are indeed capable of making it happen, then like a house of cards everything will come falling down.

So if you have an idea or are currently working on a goal, or a vision for a better future for yourself, one which you have previously perceived yourself as capable of living, then for goodness sake, keep going.

If you are already on your journey of creating the changes you want in your life, then sometimes it pays to take a step back and see where you were not that long ago, and where you are now, and then to congratulate yourself on getting to where you are and knowing that you will go much further, remember where you are is always where you are meant to be. It will always be as a result of the action you have taken or maybe lack of action.

Don’t let self doubt have the final word, stay on track, it is you vs you, nobody else is involved.

Keep going, stay focused on where you want to go and what you want to happen.

Disease and injury aside, you have more potential then you could ever realise. Your mind can be the greatest tool for getting what you want, however for most people who fall short on their plans or goals, it is their mind or rather their self doubt, lack of belief and continual negativity that is the reason they don’t get what they want.

We are all capable of so much. Learn to rise above the mind and to always continually take action until you have what you want.

Look at the reasons your life isn’t as you would like it to be right now, (if indeed this is the case) now be honest and ask yourself why is this? Is it because you are just starting out on creating your ideal life, is it because what you want to happen is unlikely to appear overnight, if it is then this is OK, this is the stage you are at right now, you will move on and be further along when you continue to take action. Now on the other hand, is the reason you are where you are right now down to a limiting belief, or negativity, or mind made self doubt? If it is then you are being your own roadblock, you are making up delays on getting to where you most want to be. Stop this now. You can have what you want in life, but do yourself a big favour first, remove the roadblocks, or rather don’t put them there in the first place, only then you will fly….

Confident, Relaxed and Certain

How much of what you have worried about has ever actually happened to you? Here you are with so much potential worrying about what may or may not happen in the future, is your position such that you really need to be concerning yourself with something which is just a mind made concept in your head? If the life you are creating for yourself happens, and only you can determine whether it does or not, won’t these days where you are worried about whether or not it would happen seem a little pathetic?

You are creating something bigger than you have ever created before, that will allow you to live a life unimaginable just a few years ago. Your goal is achievable and can be done by you; don’t ever lose sight of that.

All you have to do is think of the life you will be living and use it as motivation to continue taking action now.

Worrying is a mindless concern for every possible eventuality, it is pointless

Living in the future can be a cause of anxiety because if you were living in the now, what would you have to be nervous about?

A new definition of worry might be something like this:

Worry: A type of thinking that results in new mind made concepts that serve no other purpose then to produce anxiety and stress in a person’s life.

If you are worrying about something are you living in the present moment or are you somewhere else completely? Worrying about the future, what future? It doesn’t exist except in your own head.

  • What have you got to worry about in your day to day life?
  • What is it about your job that worries you?
  • What is it about your relationship that worries you?
  • What is it about your financial situation that worries you?

It is all imagined.

There are many bad habits in the world and worrying is one of them, if you are guilty of it then consider it something you have to quit. If you have money worries, I think you will agree that worrying about them will not solve anything, but taking action to come up with a new way to earn more money or brainstorming ways to cut your expenses might.

Worrying is born out of a lack of confidence in yourself; it is a lack of confidence in your ability to handle situations when and indeed if they were to occur. If the problem was large and in your face you wouldn’t have time to worry as you would be too busy taking action to do something about it.

How about using anxiety as a motivational strategy, I mean if you are constantly worrying then why not instead of worrying take action in the present moment to do something about what you are worrying about. If you are unable to do that, then what is the point in worrying? If you jump out of a plane without a parachute what will worrying about it solve? Nothing!

So cut down on this habit that can paralyze you. Rarely do the things that you worry about ever come true. So what’s the point? Worrying is just an ineffective way of thinking about things that may or may not happen in your life. So stop worrying and start living.

If you don’t believe you don’t bother

Belief is fundamental before you will achieve anything in life. It may sound obvious, but it is very true, if you don’t believe something will happen in the future by the actions you take today, you will not even bother to start. Belief is a fundamental ingredient if you are to manifest any change in your life. When you don’t believe you always look for ways to confirm (normally by way of inaction) what you don’t believe will happen to be true. This is very easy to do.

So it is important when you set off on making changes to any aspect of your life that you first believe you can do it, and this means really believing even to the point of expectation, like you completely and utterly believe you will be able to carry out whatever goal or plan you have set for yourself.

There are probably many reasons why people don’t achieve what they want in life, one of the reasons will be a lack of belief. So you have to believe and you also have to….

  • Encourage yourself
  • Respect and think highly of yourself
  • Keep on taking action until the life you want manifests itself

It may sound very simple but is there really a need to complicate things?

Is there really a secret to all this, to living your ideal life, I am not sure, but fundamentally at the core of any journey or path to a better life, there has to be faith, belief, self-confidence, and a healthy respect for yourself that you are indeed deserving and entitled to lead the life you want for yourself, and of course you are, but it is important that you firmly believe this when you set out on your journey.

In the early stages of change, it will be so much easier to give up and do something else. But the people who you see now living the life you most want to live could probably have given up as well, but they didn’t instead they kept on going and so should you.

There should be no need to get bogged down by negativity, observe it, and be aware of it if it happens in your life, but never let it have the final say. You will have the final say when you are living and breathing your ideal life.

When you have a goal in mind or something you want to achieve, you have to be positive about it and believe it will be possible right from the very first moment the thought enters your head. For example, I want this…. and yes I believe I can do it. I will do it., I will take action until it happens.

That’s it. No self doubt, no worry and certainly no ‘it will never happen’, or ‘it’s impossible’, because they will not help you.

The reality you live and will live in the future is dictated to by your thoughts and beliefs. So if you don’t believe something will happen or indeed it is possible guess what will transpire in the coming weeks and months?

First of all decide what it is that you want?

Now look around in as many places as you can and see if it has been done before?

If it has then you already know it is possible, you don’t have to believe because you already know it has been done before. So just get on with it and make it happen for yourself. You are no different to others who have made it happen you are just at a different stage in your journey.

If it hasn’t been done before, get ready to be the first to ever do it. It doesn’t mean it is impossible, it just means that it hasn’t been done yet. If you want to create something that hasn’t been done before believe you can do it and start taking action. There are many things in this world that were not always here, and so the person bringing them into manifestation would have not seen any examples of what they wanted to happen but he or she would have still carried on believing and taking action, and so should you.

Nothing is impossible, only the mind makes it so. Successful people are sometimes those that just kept going, carried on believing in themselves and never stopped taking action. It is not rocket science.

Believe it can be done always, because otherwise the moments of disbelief, will turn into days of inaction, which will delay you getting to where you want to be.

So first you have to……

  • Always believe it will happen, and sometimes it is just better to know it will happen
  • Keep encouraging yourself
  • Look at where you were and where you are now
  • Set short term targets
  • Keep taking action until the life you want transpires in front of you

The simpler you can make it the better, it doesn’t have to be nor should creating the changes you most want in your life be difficult or hard. Take things bit by bit, and eventually you to will have a story to tell about how you completely changed your life around.

If the life you want has been done before then you should not be your own roadblock to success. Just keep on keeping on. Don’t make it harder than it needs to be.

Negativity revisited

When you think negatively you don’t think about life in a very positive way. The negativity will cause you to cloud your thinking, it will cause you to dwell on the past and worry about the future. The question to ask is what is the point of your negative thinking, why are you doing it? Is it because you are feeling bad, stressed, angry, uncomfortable, restless, depressed? The result is a very un-resourceful state which you stay stuck in. The mind will then stay negative and you may even feel angry about feeling negative, so it then becomes an endless cycle of negativity.

Rather than think of all the plans you have made for the future, you instead immediately lower your sights about what you think is possible for yourself. You will start to dwell on your limitations, and your thoughts will be taken over with anger about the past and fear for the future.

Negative thinking will take you to the place where you don’t want to go, the exact place you are trying hard to move away from. Negative thought patterns will crush you.

Now there are certain events which can trigger off a chain of negative thinking, we are human and sometimes we get the blues? We can allow our thoughts to dominate us at times, but we shouldn’t let our minds control us like this. The mind is available for you to use anyway you want. It is capable of taking you to the highest highs, it is also equally capable of taking you to the lowest lows, you need to make sure that yours takes you to the highest highs.

  • Do you spend time being negative?
  • Do you look at things in your life in a negative way?
  • Do you think negative thoughts about your life and your future life?
  • Do you sometimes feel like just giving up, or giving up on yourself?

If your negative thinking is left untreated it can be seriously bad for your health and eventually lead to suicidal thoughts.

How is this happening?

You are thinking hopeless thoughts for the future.
You don’t perceive that there is anything worth living for.
You believe you don’t actually deserve to succeed.
You belief you are destined to live a miserable existence.

“Negativity is like a poison that can ruin the human spirit and suck the life right out of you. Negativity is born from concepts invented in your mind about what you cannot or will not be able to have or do and feeling powerless to do anything about it.”

You can do something

There may be times when in your life people tell you that you can’t do something, probably when you were younger and also perhaps as you have gotten older.

However the statement left in its original form ‘You can’t do something’ will have little meaning, it is only when we change the statement and repeat it back to ourselves with an ‘I’ that it can really affect us.

It then becomes an identity statement, a statement that your brain starts to believe to be true, a statement that will not only cause you to have doubts about your ability to do something; it will also affect your behavior and actions.

Turning it around

There are times when we sometimes don’t have the skills to carry out a particular task, when this happens rather than say to yourself ‘I can’t do this’, say ‘I can’t do this yet’. Don’t form a limiting belief from one small event that happens in your life. Your confidence levels can really drop when you do this. When you form a negative belief it affects your actions as well as your feelings. Not having the skills at a particular task is one thing but it is a completely different story when you form a lasting negative belief from it.

Thinking big

It doesn’t take any more effort to think about how you could earn $10,000 in a year than $1,000,000. If you go away and ask yourself how you could come up with an extra 10,000 your mind would then go away and come up with an answer maybe not right away, but it would certainly still find one eventually or at least come up with some ideas. The same is true of 1,000,000 it would take no more effort to think about how it would be possible, it may take longer (or maybe it wouldn’t) but you would have to run the same programs in your mind, ‘how could I earn this much money’, the figures will only direct your thoughts to find an appropriate strategy, you are not guaranteed of either and at this initial stage of thought you are simply using your imagination to come up with possibilities.

Yet most people wouldn’t even bother to start with such high figures, instead there would be a barrier in their mind that said it would be impossible.

Everybody is equally apt at coming up with ways to make money, however the figure you place on it will ultimately determine the kind of results you will get. Because to make more money will require you to think in grander terms, for example more people buying what you have to sell or whatever.

The point being that at this early stage of thought there should be no barriers, to what you perceive to be possible for yourself, none at all.

A powerful tool

Your mind is a powerful tool and it is something that needs to be working for you at all times, never against you. You control your own mind and your own thoughts, every single one of them.

Most people would probably say their minds controlled them, it doesn’t, our mind is a tool to be used as effectively as possible. Your brain can take you to wherever you want to go in life, it is equally capable and happy to take you to places where you don’t want to be. The highest highs and also the lowest lows, you decide.

Say the word ‘beach’ and what do you think about? Picture an apple tree and what do you see? You control everything that happens in your own mind. There is great power in this, the power comes from the life you will lead as a result of what happens in your mind first.

You can direct your brain at all times, you can tell it where you want to go. If you don’t control your brain then who does? And if you don’t learn to manipulate your own mind to get what you want then what will the consequences of this be?

The meaning makers

The meaning you give to anything is whatever you decide to hold in your mind. Reality is whatever meaning you decide to place on the events that happen in your life. It is from the eyes of your mind that your future life will be created, reality isn’t necessarily what happens to you right now, reality is what you decide to feel about what happens right now, the perception you attribute to the thoughts you think and the world you see is what makes it real to you.

When you manipulate things in your mind, ideas, concepts, thoughts, you change the outer aspects of your world. A mind made concept is something that has no existence in the real world it is formed in the mind only, you can’t make a movie of a belief you have, you can only make a movie of the actions of that belief.

We all decide what meanings we give to the events we have in our life, and also the thoughts we think, and we are able to change this meaning at any time, the meanings we give to things that have happened in the past do not have to be the meanings we attribute to these things in the future.

Meanings and the perceptions of the events and even the ideas you have are all mind made concepts.

“Meaning is to hold in mind.”
“Meaning in an invented reality”

So it is all choice, we might not believe it at first, but our lives are indeed based on the choices we have made and will continue to make in the future. So in order to create a better life for ourselves and indeed others, it is in our best interests to first decide to form empowering beliefs about ourselves, and what we can do and create in our life.

Saying we can’t do this or that, looking at our life as it is today and not believing it will be different in the future are not the most useful things we can or should be doing with our mind. What you want to be doing with your mind is reminding yourself of how great your future will be, how you have got what it takes to get you there and what exactly you will do to make it happen. There are essentially two roads your mind can take you, the road which leads to where you want to be, and the road which leads to the place you don’t want to be. You want to be focusing on where you want to be going at all times.

Your mind is a tool to be used here and now, and you decide exactly where it will take you at all times, always remember this.

Concentrate on the future - Leave your past alone

Your past needs to be left alone and not bought with you into your present if you are working towards creating a better life for yourself. Your past never has to be an indication of all you can do in the future, unfortunately for many people this is not the case, they give life to their past by constantly thinking about it in their minds and so in some way it does get in the way of the actions they take in the present moment.

Don’t waste time doing this, as much as possible plan all that is to be in your future, and spend your time focusing in the steps that you need to take now for it all to happen. The more you do this the greater your chance of success will be.

There are many great things about to happen in your future which deserve your attention and your time, and it is this which you should be devoting your actions to in this present moment.

If you have beliefs about certain things not happening in the future because they have not happened in the past, then understand that they should not be given any life in your present and certainly not in your future? Don’t spend time dwelling on what has or hasn’t happened in your life up until this current point where you find yourself.

Become more optimistic about your future, get excited about all the good things you will get to do and all the new things you will learn. You can have the life you want, but you have to stop thinking about you past.

It is important to adopt an attitude of ‘anything is possible’ for your life and it is equally important to leave the unproductive thoughts behind. An attitude of ‘I am the way I am, and that is how it will always be’ won’t help to move your life forward. Neither will ‘I’ve never been good at this before, what makes now so different’?

If you are planning on changing your life then all these attitudes need to be left behind. Instead of focusing your attention on the past, choose to focus it on creating new realities for yourself now.

With the actions you take each day you are creating a new history for yourself, become aware of this and do not underestimate the affects of even the tiniest action you take in this present moment.

“Your future history is being created right now, this minute.”

Start facing up to truths about who is responsible for your future. It is only the actions you take now that will ever dictate what will happen in your future. You can make something happen for yourself, believe this possible and accept no statements to the contrary. The only person who can ever get in your way of making something good happen for yourself is you.

This is your time, your reality and your life. Don’t live in somebody else’s shoes, your life is your responsibility and no one else’s.
