Possibilities

When faced with uncertainty, it is sometimes looked upon as a negative to not know what you want, when people arrive at a crossroads in their lives, being unclear about what to do normally brings with it introspection and self doubt and more than likely a little concern about what the future will bring. But perhaps another way to look at this critical junction, is that it is a point in time when you have many potential avenues available to you that were not there before.

“At the point of uncertainty you are open to all possibilities.”

A time when instead of having no clue about what to do and consequently feeling apprehension about it, it becomes a time to look at a much bigger picture, a picture filled with numerous opportunities some of which you may never of considered before and probably would never consider if you were to stay on your current path. It is at these crossroads that anything is possible in your life. At these moments in your life you should not limit your choices but rather embrace all potential future scenarios as options for yourself.

Just because you don’t know what you want to do or are unsure what direction you want to take doesn’t automatically mean that it is something to feel bad about (or feel frustrated over).

When you arrive at a turning point in your life it is important you explore all options, it is not something trivial to be put to one side and re-evaluated at a later time. It is your life and it is important to spend time with any ideas or motives that you may have to do something different.

You have the potential of being anything you want. In today’s society there are more prospects than ever before to create a life for yourself that is truly unique to you. Today you can redefine you and your life in ways that 50 years ago were unheard of.

Technological advancements in our everyday lives and in terms of understanding the human mind provide us with ample opportunities to create change in our lives.

When you are uncertain about the road to travel down, remind yourself that your life is unique and that there is no correct path that works for everybody. We are all different and everybody faces difficult decisions about which direction to take at some point in their life. Just because you are faced with choices wherever you are or however old you are doesn’t matter, all that matters is that you see your situation in a positive light and investigate all options available.

Our choices provide us with a glimpse of ourselves standing in new surroundings; they are a chance for us to see ourselves in the future. They are a blueprint for what may be possible for us, a life that is not yet realized and what previously could not be foreseen.

Stories not yet told, experiences not yet fulfilled.

Do you ever look around and wonder what happened? We all realize hindsight is a beautiful thing but sometimes we lack the foresight to ever come up with new ideas.

The thing is there are new ideas all around, tomorrow something could be invented that will change the lives of people everywhere. Somebody once said years ago, that everything that needs to be invented has already been invented … Not quite.

Opportunities are everywhere around you, all you need to do is open your eyes. Instead of seeing nothing but roadblocks and barriers to stop you from getting what you want, be hopeful about the future and understand that any decision you make has potential to take you on a new journey in life.

There is a place for you in this world, a place for you to be the best you can be. When you find that person in you (who is aligned on all levels), one who is congruent with his / her values and skills in life, and who is doing what they really want in life, then nothing will stop you, your will and desire to succeed will be too strong for any obstacle.

Are you ready to forget the past and concentrate on the future?

January 19th, 2008

Your past is no indication of what lays ahead for you in the future, but it can get in the way if you let it. In fact the more you are prepared to let bygones be bygones and stop dwelling in the past the better your chances of success are in the future. Just because you have never done this or that, or that the last time you tried something you failed doesn’t mean it will happen in the future.

To create change in your life you need to look upon the future in a way that is different from how you view your past. It needs to be more optimistic and you need to get excited about it. You see most people probably can have the life they want, but all too many people can’t break out of the habit of living in the past.

If you think the past somehow will dictate your future you may well come unstuck, for instance an attitude of ‘I am the way I am, and that is how it will always be’ won’t help to move your life forward. Neither will ‘I’ve never been good at this before, what makes now so different’.

If you are planning on changing your life then all these attitudes need to be left behind. You have to be prepared to come at life with a new ‘anything is possible’ approach if you are to create a whole new life for yourself.

It can be done, the past may weigh heavy on your conscience now but it doesn’t have to, especially if you take action now to create new realities for yourself and your future.

Every day you are creating your new history; your future past is being created right now, this minute.

Start facing up to truths about who is responsible for your future. The past doesn’t have to have any part in your future and it is certainly no indication on how it will turn out, only the actions you take now can decide that.

Your ideal life won’t fall into your lap

November 16th, 2007

If you are creating any change in your life, it is important to understand that your changes will not suddenly appear overnight. It is also vitally important to not get discouraged when this doesn’t happen. And while it may be obvious to some the changes you want to happen will certainly not occur if you don’t put in any effort. It is easy sometimes to dismiss something as a non-starter in your own mind before any real concrete action has taken place, all too easy unfortunately.

Let’s assume you know what you want, you have written down your goals, and you know the changes would have a dramatic affect on your life for the better. It’s a great start but that is all it is. I have spoken about action before. But taking action doesn’t always guarantee results, you need constant, daily, never ending action.

Even by taking action you are still at the mercy of your thoughts, and any negative thoughts that you may have, can and will have a direct impact on your productivity. Everything from what you say to yourself, your behavior, and what you believe can potentially be a road block to your progress.

If you find yourself in a position where you have stopped working towards your goal (for whatever reason), then start again by making a daily plan of things that you need to do to get back on track.

For example, today I will do this ………….

It can be easy to live inside your head and know what you have to do, but not actually do anything about it in the real world. I find that I sometimes live in my head far too often, which ultimately results in not achieving very much.

Thinking too much can be a cause of great unhappiness, especially if it is negative. It can also prevent you from making inroads into what it is you are hoping to achieve.

Make a plan of what you need to do and stick to it. Don’t let interfering thoughts and negative feelings get in the way. Instead have faith in yourself, and believe that one day you will have what it is you are working towards.

Your ideal life won’t fall into your lap, you are going to have to work for it. Don’t expect it to just happen. If something is worth having, it is going to be worth the time and the effort it will take to get there.

Just remember that the constant and determined effort you put in each day will always bring you closer to where you want to be. By all means stop, reflect and congratulate yourself on the progress you have made but don’t stop and think negative thoughts that will stop you dead in your tracks, all this does is dismiss and negate all the work that you have already put in.

A person who does

October 16th, 2007

Some ideas about taking action towards getting what you want in life. There are essentially 2 different types of people in the world, those that make something happen and those who watch other people make something happen. Make sure you are not the latter.

  • Be the person who turns an idea into something real.
  • Be the person who instead of thinking about what they need to do actually does it.
  • Be the person who rather than wait until next week or tomorrow does something today.
  • Be the person who understands that taking little steps is much better than taking no steps.
  • Be the person who understands that they will not fail but learn instead.
  • Be the person who knows they are the creators of their entire world.
  • Be the person who doesn’t complain about the things that aren’t in their life but rather makes a conscious effort to obtain what isn’t there.
  • Be the person that spends their time wisely on activities that will benefit themselves and others.
  • Be the person who believes in themselves, and their abilities.
  • Become the person who makes something happen in their life

Action, Action, Action

August 28th, 2007

Taking action is be one of the biggest factors that separates success from failure, action is the difference between living the life you want and not living the life you want. From having what you want to going without.

Whether action is reading a book, writing a book, creating a website, helping others, selling your house, self development, quitting a bad habit, learning a language, taking up an evening class to learn a new hobby or skill, re-writing your CV, contacting friends you haven’t seen for a while, improving yourself in some way or forcing yourself out of your comfort zone, action has an undeniable quality about it, it can’t be ignored and is an absolute must when creating change in your life.

Let’s say you want to start your own business, you have thought about it for a long time, read numerous books on the subject, spoken to people about your plans, they are all for it! But you still don’t do it! Why?

We all have ideas for products that could be very successful but how many people talk about it and how many people actually decide to do something about it?

We all know of people who talk about what they want to do in the future, but how many of these same people are actually doing it months later?

You have a real chance of success when you take action, you immediately start to make progress against the goals you have set for yourself, you start learning about what works and what doesn’t. However little your initial steps maybe, by taking these steps you are saying ‘This is what I want and this is what I am going to do about it’. Rather than just sit there and think about taking action. I know if there was a medal for thinking about taking action then I would surely win it, but there isn’t and rightly so.

However here’s another way to look at it, if you don’t take action towards whatever it is you want in your life, you are absolutely 100% guaranteed not to get it. By not taking action you are sealing your fate before you have even attempted to start.

Nothing comes from nothing right? I firmly believe that if you take action towards your goals or whatever you want to change in your life, then you are already doing more than a lot of people out there.

“The journey of a thousand miles begins with a step ..”
-Lao Tzu

What stops people taking action?

There is simply far too much to gain from taking action then not taking it when you are on a course of self development. You know something has to change, and yet you still don’t take action, why is this? I am guilty of this myself.

Laziness
Motivation
Money
Time
Fear

Maybe you think your goal is too big, and that whatever you do today will have no impact so you don’t bother doing anything, this is a classic mistake to make, believing that what you do today has no impact on the overall goal. But doing something is always better than doing nothing, little by little great things can be achieved, it’s the simply little changes in your daily life that over time can make the biggest impact. It is by making a commitment to yourself each day to do something towards improving your life, however small, that over time will affect your life greatly. Before you know it, real big changes have been made. Businesses are created, relationships formed, languages learned and lasting changes made.

Break the problem down into smaller chunks, instead of looking at the overall outcome.

What is it that you are going to do today that will make a difference in your life tomorrow?

Let’s say you have a characteristic about yourself you want to improve, for example to be more socially confident, from where you are now (shy, timid and nervous), this may seem like a long way off, but if each day you make a commitment to do something about it and then take action to achieve it, you are already on your way to overcoming the problem and becoming more socially confident. The commitment you make to yourself each day to take action will always be what separates you from everybody else.

The ability to act is what separates people. Action moves mountains! If you want to go anywhere in life, if you want your life to change in any way shape or form you are going to have to sit up and take action. Make a plan of what you need to do and then take the necessary steps every day. Even if it is 10 minutes a day, it will always be better than doing nothing.

“You don’t have to be great to start, but you have to start to be great.”
-Joe Sabah

In 6 months time how on earth do you expect your life to be different if you aren’t doing anything about it right now? ~Here’s a newsflash, if you aren’t taking action today, tomorrow or the next day to work towards your goals then guess what? You and your life will be exactly the same in 6 months time as it is now!

You will never have any chance of success (whatever that means to you) if you don’t take action. Taking action is no 100% guarantee of success; just because you are taking an acting class doesn’t mean you will one day win an Oscar. But not doing anything about your life will guarantee nothing improves.

“There are three kinds of people; those who make things happen, those who watch things happen, and those who wonder what happened.”
-Nicholas Butler Murray

Remember that your future is created not by what you do tomorrow but by what you do today.

Have you got what it takes?

July 19th, 2007

What will it take for you to stand up and do something about your life? Maybe you get up to go to a job that doesn’t inspire you one little bit, work for 12 hours, then come home, have no time to do anything for yourself, maybe watch TV for a while before going to bed and repeat the process for the next 5 days. How you wish it was different. What exactly has happened? How did your life get like this?

I know you would like to do something about it, deep down inside you know that there is something that is not quite right with your life. Maybe the job you are doing just doesn’t inspire you anymore. You realize you have lost touch with who you really are and are doing something that is not in line with your core values. You find yourself in a position where you are just going through the motions. Does this sound familiar?

You know you are not firing on all cylinders. You haven’t been firing on all cylinders for a while. You know you are capable of so much more. And what makes it worse is that you seem to be surrounded by people who seem to be happy and content with their lives. Makes you sick doesn’t it?

OK so you know that you have to do something, you just can’t go on like this, you need a change that much is for sure.

But knowing you have to do something and actually doing it can be quite different. I personally believe most people will just accept their life for what it is and just ‘get on with it’. However it takes courage to change your life. When you do something about changing your life or anything about yourself, you are doing what most people don’t do, you are already in the minority, and that takes guts my friend, guts!

“Life shrinks or expands in proportion to ones courage.”

So go for it! Take the leap, start by identifying what it is that you want to change, then take the steps required to make it happen. Learn to become inspired by your own life. It takes great confidence however old you are, wherever you are or whatever you are doing to initiate change and not many people will ever do that.

Take pride in your decision to set forth a new dimension to your life. This is an exciting time for you right now, you are about to write a new chapter in the play called ‘Your Life’, so remember to stay positive and optimistic about what will happen for you in the future.
